
Horned Frogs Breeze by UAB in Cancun Challenge Finale

CANCUN, Mexico – TCU's three-headed monster of Olivia Miles, Marta Suarez and Donovyn Hunter roared once more on the final day of the Cancun Challenge.
The trio teamed up for 53 points as the eighth-ranked Horned Frogs waltzed to an 82-61 victory over UAB on Friday at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
It was the sixth time in eight tries that all three players combined to score 50-plus. Miles, Suarez and Hunter collectively have tallied at least 48 points in all eight of the Horned Frogs wins.
TCU notched its third consecutive 8-0 start to a season and in program history with the result.
Suarez led all players with 19 points on 8-16 shooting.
The 6-3 stretch forward began the game in the same fashion as she did in TCU's victory over Richmond the night prior. Suarez hit her first four shots and racked up nine points over the first four minutes of the ballgame to stake TCU to a 16-5 lead. Versus Richmond, Suarez poured in 24 first half points and was 9-9 from the field to start.
Miles finished with 18 points and six assists while carving out a slice of NCAA history along the way. She notched her eighth straight game with at least 15 points and five assists to begin the year. Miles tied Maryland's Kristi Toliver's 2007-08 run of eight consecutive 15-and-5 games for the longest season-opening streak in in NCAA history at the Power Conference level.
Hunter tallied 14 points – 12 of which came in the first half – for her eighth straight game in double figures.
She and Miles have scored 10-plus in every game this season.
Hunter and Suarez each put nine points on the board in the first period as TCU began the game 11-19 (58 percent) from the floor.
TCU worked its way to a 43-25 halftime lead.
Miles netted eight of her points in the third quarter as TCU took a 20-point advantage into the final frame.
Veronica Sheffey and Clara Bielefeld proved to be the Frogs' one-two punch in the fourth quarter as TCU turned to its reserves. Sheffey and Bielefeld scored 13 points combined and nailed 5-6 field goal attempts.
Both players finished with season highs in points scored – nine for Sheffey and six for Bielefeld.
Bielefeld was one of five players to snag at least five boards for the Horned Frogs, who outrebounded the Blazers 45-27.
Clara Silva pulled down eight rebounds and led all players on the glass for the second straight night. Bielefeld and Suarez each had five while Kennedy Basham gave TCU seven points, four points and four blocks over 16 minutes off the bench.
TCU held the Blazers to 35 percent shooting (23-65) and finished with a 52-24 edge on points in the paint.
UAB sprinkled in eight 3-pointers – the most TCU has allowed in a game this season – to prevent the Horned Frogs from separating further.
