TCU Sweeps Stetson 4-0
PEACHTREE, GEORGIA – TCU women's tennis became the first-ever NIT Champions on Saturday with their 4-0 sweep over Stetson.
The Horned Frogs (16-9) displayed their best tennis of the season at the Peachtree Tennis Center in Georgia. TCU made history in their win over the Hatters (20-9).
It was all Horned Frogs from the coin flip as TCU took the early advantage in the doubles point. Destinee Martins and Tiphanie Lemaitre capitalized on the first court making just their third appearance on the court. The duo led a 6-3 victory swinging the early momentum in favor of TCU.
Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai did what they have done all season long and secured a 6-3 win on court three for their tenth win as a pair on the year. The Frogs took the lead and never looked back.
In singles play, TCU imposed its will on all courts. Lemaitre continued her dominant tournament run winning in straight sets over DiFrancesco (6-2, 6-0). The senior finished the tournament going 3-0 only dropping eight games in the tournament.
Next was Otway, the sophomore from New Zealand who also finished the tournament going an unbeaten 3-0 in singles. She prevailed over Stetson's Darley (6-3, 6-3) in her last match.
With the score at 3-0, TCU had the advantage on all the courts. However, the first domino to fall was junior Destinee Martins who won her 14th singles match of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 final score to secure the title for TCU.
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker recapped the incredible run from his team.
