Frogs Win Against UTPB, Men Finish Second at FIU

Both teams win against UTPB, men finish second overall at FIU

FORT WORTH – The TCU swimming & diving programs had a stellar showing this weekend at the FIU TYR Classic and against UT Permian Basin. At FIU, the men's team finished second overall while the women's team placed fourth. Against UTPB, both teams picked up wins as the men won 164.5-115.5 and the women's squad won 171-110.
FIU TYR Classic
Heading into Day Two, the men's squad was second overall after a strong performance on Day One.
Geremia Freri had a huge win for the Horned Frogs as he won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:29.19.
Notching a second-place finish was the 200 medley relay team of Stefan Varga, Janis Silins, Piotr Sadlowski and Raphael Paiva Da Lima as they swam a 1:30.68. Paiva Da Lima also placed second in the 100 freestyle.
Varga's time of 1:50.87 was good for third in the 100 backstroke. In the 200 breaststroke, Silins swam a time of 2:03.80 to place third. Adding another third-place finish for the Frogs was Luke DiMiceli in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.30.
On the women's side, Francesca Pasquino clocked a time of 2:02.73 to place third in the 200 backstroke. Olivia Rhodes also recorded a third-place finish for the Frogs in the 100 freestyle with her time of 52.04.
Rounding out the meet for the women's team was the 400 freestyle relay team of Rhodes, Pasquino, Megan Morris and Emma Hultquist that placed third.
On the boards, David Ekdahl placed third on the 3-meter with a score of 331.90, earning him his second Zone cut on the 3-meter this season. Connie Deighton also notched a Zone cut on the 1-meter dive as she finished sixth overall with a score of 265.05.
UT Permian Basin
The Frogs kicked off the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay. The team of Ashleen O'Brien, Morgan Despres, Zoe Woods and Lucia Simovicova swam a time of 4:04.08 en route to the victory.
In the 1000 freestyle, Jordan Edwards, Cayla Prophater and Rachel Rodriguez swept the event for the Frogs. Picking up another sweep was Serena Gould, Abigail Meder and Lisa Johnson in the 200 freestyle.
O'Brien picked up her second win of the day in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.57. Also winning her second event of the day was Edwards as her time of 2:12.39 was good for first in the 200 butterfly.
The trio of Simovicova, Coughlin and Gould swept the 50 freestyle. In the 200 backstroke, Prophater, Johnson and O'Brien took the top three spots.
Edwards went on to win her third event of the day in the 200 breaststroke. Meder, Rodriguez and Gould continued their strong performances on the day by taking the top three spots in the 500 freestyle.
Woods picked up a win in the 100 butterfly with her time of 1:01.69. Prophater also notched another win in the 200 IM with her time of 2:12.16.
On the men's side, TCU kicked off the day with Nick Skinner, Hugh McPherson, Michael Chwaluk and Parker Hughes earning the win in the 400 medley relay. Charlie Brennig dominated the 1000 freestyle and won with a time of 9:46.40.
Dusan Babic, Rasmus Pedersen and Bennett Maczka swept the 200 freestyle. Also sweeping the 100 backstroke was Joao Andrade, Kade Knoch and Skinner.
In the 100 breaststroke, Jadon Wuilliez, Shayne Simmons and McPherson won the top three spots. Chwaluk picked up his second win of the day when he won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.21.
Jake Litchfield's time of 21.42 was good for first in the 50 freestyle. Pedersen recorded a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.56.
In the 200 backstroke, Knoch, Skinner and Charles Millette swept the top three spots. TCU also swept the 200 breaststroke with McPherson, Simmons and Phillip Endom claiming the top three finishes.
Rounding out the meet for the men was the winning 200 freestyle relay team of Wuilliez, Hughes, Andrade and Andrew Rattray as the squad swam a time of 1:26.96.
On the boards, Faith Harms-Zacharias notched the highest score of the day on both the 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 259.05 and 276.52, respectively.
