No. 1 TCU Ends Fall Season with Win

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 1 ranked TCU rifle team won its final match of the fall season. The Horned Frogs fired a strong score of 4,709 to finish first among four ranked teams, topping No. 6 Air Force, No. 14 Ohio State and No. 25 Georgia Southern.
Shooting against two Patriot Rifle Conference foes, the Horned Frogs turned in the best team score in both disciplines. They shot a 2,331 in smallbore and a 2,378 in air rifle. The Frogs (5-0) remain undefeated in conference matches this season.
TCU finished with four of the top five aggregate shooters in the match. Casey Lutz led the field for the second straight match, turning in a score of 1,179. Rachel Garner and Elizabeth Marsh both finished tied for second with a mark of 1,177. Freshman Kristen Hemphill followed, firing a 1,176 to place fifth.
In smallbore, the Frogs had a strong showing with three of the top four scores. Lutz fired a 585, the best score in the match, while Hemphill shot a 583 to place second. Garner turned in the fourth highest mark at 582. Marsh and Henry rounded out the scoring for the counters, firing scores of 581 and 571, respectively.
TCU continued its domination in air rifle. As a team, they finished with six of the top eight performers in the discipline. Marsh led the Frogs, shooting a score of 596 and placing second. Garner turned in a mark of 595 while Lutz finished with a 594. Hemphill placed fifth overall with a 593 and freshmen Abby Gordon and Angeline Henry both followed, shooting a score of 592.
Air Force finished second in the match with a team score of 4,680 (2,321 in smallbore and 2,359 in air rifle). Ohio State finished third with a score of 4,652 (2,297 in smallbore and 2,355 in air rifle) and Georgia Southern rounded out the competition with a 4,555 (2,228 in smallbore and 2,327 in air rifle). Casper Schadler paced the Falcons firing an aggregate of 1,177. The Buckeyes were led by Elizabeth Dutton (1,164 aggregate), while Courtney Weekley turned in the top aggregate for the Eagles (1,173).
At the midseason mark, the Frogs are averaging an aggregate score of 4,700, just behind West Virginia. However, TCU sits atop the NCAA team standings with a three-location average of 4,713.
TCU will begin the spring season on Jan. 19 in Fort Worth, once again shooting against No. 6 Air Force and No. 14 Ohio State.
