Rifle Continues Strong Start

Oct. 9, 2017 FORT WORTH – A career day for freshman Elizabeth Marsh helped the TCU rifle team to a first place finish at The Citadel on Saturday. Marsh turned in career highs in air rifle (597) and aggregate (1,185) to lead all shooters in the match.
"I'm very pleased with the high level the team is performing at this early in the season," said haed coach Karen Monez.
The Horned Frogs as a team fired a team aggregate score of 4,718 aided by a 2,379 in air rifle and a 2,339 in smallbore. TCU produced the top five shooters in both disciplines. The team aggregate score is tied for the fifth-highest in program history, while the air rifle mark is tied for the third-highest.
Marsh set the standard with a 588 in smallbore. Rachel Garner (587) and Ariana Grabowski (585) fired season-highs to finish second and third, respectively in smallbore. Casey Lutz's 579 accounted for the top four counting scores in the match. Not factoring into the team score, but firing the fourth-highest score in the match was Barrett Ray with a 581.
Behind Marsh's pace-setting score of 597 in air rifle, TCU fired the next four highest scores. Garner, Lutz and Mindy Miles all fired identical 594s. Grabowski contributed a 589.
Emily Haag fired a 574 in smallbore and a 585 in air rifle to give her a career-high 1,159 aggregate score. Garner (1,181) and Grabowski (1,174) also turned in season-high aggregate scores in the match.
Jacksonville State finished second in the match with a team score of 4,629 followed by The Citadel (4,509) and The Citadel women's team (3,830).
TCU will return to the range on Sunday, Oct. 22 when it heads to Murray State.
