Rifle Continues Torrid Start

FORT WORTH -- For the fifth consecutive match, the No. 2 TCU women's rifle team surpassed the coveted 4,700 plateau, shooting a 4,708 in a win over No. 13 Nevada. The aggregate score is the fourth-highest mark fired in program history.
Mindy Miles paced all shooters with a match-high 587 in smallbore, a 597 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 1,184.
All five counters in smallbore fired a 580 or better to post a team score of 2,332. Sally Li turned in the third-highest mark in the match after shooting a 584. Ariana Grabowski (580) and Casey Lutz (581) made it five straight matches shooting 580 or better. Rachel Garner also shot a 580, the fourth time in five matches this season. While not part of the counting group, Rachel Kimbell shot a personal-best 580.
Four of the five counters in air rifle shot a 591 or better, leading TCU to a team score of 2,376 in the discipline. Garner was nipping at the heels of Miles with a 596. She has fired a 592 or better in all five matches this season. For the fourth straight match, Li surpassed the 590 mark, shooting a 592. Lutz rounded out the top shooters for TCU with a 591.
In all, TCU produced four of the top five aggregate scores. Li finished third with a 1,176 followed by Garner (1,176) and Lutz (1,172).
Nevada was paced by Mitchell VanPatten, who led the team with a 585 in smallbore and a 591 in air rifle. He posted the second-highest aggregate score in the match at 1,176. As a team, Nevada fired a 2,313 in smallbore and a 2,352 in air rifle for a match score of 4,665.
TCU is 5-0 on the campaign. The Horned Frogs will hit the road on Nov. 5 as it travels to El Paso for a match against No. 7 Ohio State.
