Women's Tennis Opens the Fall Season

FORT WORTH, Texas - All eight members of the TCU women's tennis team opened their fall slate this past weekend with competition at three different sites - The Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational, the Duke Bonk Invite and the 2015 Coleman Vision Tennis Championships.
Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational
Aleksandra Zenovka was able to post three wins over the weekend and reached the quarterfinals of singles and doubles at the Racquet Club in Midland, Texas. Zenovka defeated Katherine Whiteway of Pen State, 6-3, 6-0 and then toppled Nastya Shestakova of North Texas, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals. Zenovka eventually fell to Felicity Maltby of Texas Tech, 6-1, 6-2.
After being ousted from the main draw of the single bracket, sophomore Alexis Pereira bounced back to reach the finals of the consolation bracket. Pereira scored wins over Agustina Valenzuela of North Texas (7-5, 5-7, 10-6), Maria Jose Cardona of Kansas (8-6) and Astrid Gehre of UT Arlington (8-6) to reach the finals. Pereira faced No. 86 Sabrina Federici of Texas Tech in the finals and fell in a close match-up, 9-8.

Duke Bonk Invite
Caroline Wegner, Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Mia King saw their first action in the TCU uniforms this past weekend in Cary, N.C. Wegner was able to win the consolation side of the Blue bracket by defeating Amandna Rebol of NC State (6-7(2), 6-3, 7-6 (5)) before downing Kendal Woodard of Georgia Tech, 6-1, 6-3, to win the consolation.
Olaya Garrido-Rivas placed third in the consolation bracket of the Black singles draw with a victory over Rebecca Smaller of Duke, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Sofiko Kadzhaya was also able to advance to the consolation final of the Grey bracket, but fell to Peggy Porter of Florida, 6-1, 6-3.

2015 Coleman Vision Tennis Championships
Competing at $75K ITF Pro Circuit Event, freshman Marie Norris went head-to-head against world No. 412, Ellie Halbauer. Although Norris battled hard against the No. 3 seed in the qualifying draw, Halbauer ultimately came away with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in Albuquerque, N.M.

TCU will continue fall action at the Oklahoma Invite on Sept. 25 in Norman, Okla., with select players also competing in the Red Rock Pro Open on Sept. 27 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Horned Frogs will compete in their first championship of the 2015-16 season by taking part in the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships starting on Sept. 30.
