FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's golf team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional Championships on Monday, marking the program's 26th-straight postseason berth. The Horned Frogs will compete as the No. 6 seed at the Washington Regional at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., on May 14-16.
The top-five finishes from each of the nation's six regional sites will advance to compete at the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 29 through June 3 at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla. In addition to those teams, the top individual finisher not on one of the advancing squads will also earn a bid to compete at nationals.
"I'm really proud of the guys and the work that they've put in to be able to continue this streak," head coach Bill Montigel said. "The postseason is my favorite time of year and I'm looking forward to getting started."
Joining TCU in the Washington Regional is No. 6 South Carolina, No. 12 Washington, No. 17 USC, No. 18 Baylor, No. 30 UAB, No. 43 Iowa State, No. 44 Sam Houston State, Michigan, UC-Davis, VCU, Pepperdine, Cleveland State and South Dakota.
Under the direction of Montigel, the Horned Frogs have reached the NCAA postseason for 26-straight years, joining Clemson and UNLV as the only programs to achieve the feat under the same head coach. The streak also ranks as the longest postseason run in TCU history for all sports.
The 2014-15 season was marked by consistency, as TCU registered seven top-five showings in 11 events, including a team title at the Desert Intercollegiate. The Horned Frogs earned a 110-47-2 overall record, including 20 wins over top-25 opponents, and earned its highest finish at the Big 12 Championship with a third-place showing.
All five regulars in the lineup this season have earned a stroke average of 73.53 or lower, including Julien Brun's team-best average of 71.86. Brun and fellow senior Andrew Presley both enter postseason play riding a hot streak, earning top-10 finishes at the Big 12 Championship. Brun has registered a 70.83 stroke average over his last 12 rounds while Presley has fired a 71.40 average in his last 10 outings.
Brun, a nine-time tournament winner, claimed the individual title at the NCAA San Antonio Regional a year ago.
TCU will attempt to return to the NCAA Championship for the fourth time in the last six years and the 14th time overall in Montigel's tenure.
