FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's tennis senior Simona Parajova was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Tuesday by being named the ITA Texas Region Most Improved Senior Player of the Year.
This year, No. 46 Parajova has led the team from start to finish in singles action and recorded a 24-4 record this season. The Slovakia native has won her last 11 matches and is 16-2 at the No. 2 position for TCU. Parajova has downed five ranked opponents this season and finished Big 12 action with a perfect 5-0 record.
Parajova opened the season ranked No. 88 and won the singles consolation bracket at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships in the fall. Parajova climbed to as high as No. 38 in the spring with her only losses in dual matches coming to ranked opponents. The last loss Parajova suffered in the spring came on Feb. 14 to then-No. 31 Kyle McPhillips of UCLA.
Parajova earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Singles Championship that will start on May 20 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. Parajova's selection to the singles competition is the fourth straight year someone from TCU is making a postseason appearance and the 17th time in program history a singles player or doubles team has competed in the postseason.
