FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 17 TCU women's tennis team was able to get back to its winning ways by shutting down No. 62 USF, 5-2, on Friday night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (5-5) easily took the doubles point against the Bulls (2-5) and then racked up four straight singles wins in the dominant victory on the Bernard J. `Tut' Bartzen Varsity courts.
"Considering everything that's been going on with our team, I'm so proud of the effort tonight," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "We were on the road four straight weekends and we had the stomach virus going around on our team that led us to canceling practice for the week. The team had plenty of reasons to be flat tonight and not play well, but they didn't do that. They had fun, got better and beat a defending conference championship team. It was a great victory and confidence builder."
TCU got off to a quick start in doubles action, as Palina Dubavets and Alexis Pereira picked up their team-leading 13th win of the season and first at No. 2 doubles with a commanding 6-1 victory over Vera Bessonova and Olga Marinez.
No. 39 Seda Arantekin and Stefanie Tan clinched the doubles point for the Frogs with a 6-2 victory over Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Alicia Robinson at No. 1 singles for the duo's ninth win this season and fourth on court one.
TCU took the momentum into singles action, as Arantekin and Pereira struck first at the bottom of the lineup to put the Frogs up 3-0. Arantekin controlled her match and took out her opponent 6-1, 6-1 on court six, while Pereira defeated Juliana Cardosa 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Senior and No. 47 Simona Parajova clinched the match for TCU just moments later, as the Slovakia native shut down Vera Bessonova 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to improve to 14-4 on the season and 6-2 on court two.
The Frogs would get one more win on the night to move up to 5-0 in the match, as Dubavets fought through a tiebreaker in the first set, to take the second set 6-1 and her match at No. 4 singles. Dubavets is now 13-4 on the season and 4-1 on court four.
TCU will go back on the road and will continue action at North Texas on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m., in Denton, Texas.
