Opening Statement
"Both teams came into this game feeling like there was a sense of urgency to get the win. I could see out of their team early that they were competing really hard and I saw that out of our team as well. The way this team responded after Oklahoma says a lot about their program and when we lose, we have to learn and play better. We worked on fundamentals, we didn't really work on anything special in practice. We just worked on fundamentals and we wanted to see that carry over to the game. The game wasn't perfect, it never will be, but there were some things that we saw for our team that will lead to more possessions than we had in the last two games."
On Natalie Ventress and momentum
"She is a confident shooter. That is what you want your shooters to be. She took some great shots, even when she had missed she knew it was the right shot. It definitely created momentum, but I felt like momentum was created more for us when we were able to get some rebounds and get some hustle plays and loose balls. You saw multiple players on the floor fighting, that kept our momentum going more than just a big shot."
TCU Guard Zahna Medley
On rebounding
"I was really focusing on rebounding this game. I talked to coach and she talked to me about really focusing on rebounding. Getting those rebounds allows me to push the ball instead of waiting for outlet passes. When I got those rebounds I was able to push in the primary and get those one-on-one plays in the lane."
TCU Guard Natalie Ventress
On big shot momentum
"I really didn't notice it like that. I just thought whenever we were on offense we needed to score. So every time we are on offense I am trying to score. My teammates and coach P keep telling me to be aggressive. That's all I am trying to do."
On physical gameplay
"We like a physical game, especially on defense. We have Chelsea ball pressuring, when she can do that, our other guards deny their players. So I think that physical play benefits us on defense."
Kansas Coach Bonnie Henrickson
Opening statement
"I think there was 3:25 in the first half and it was a three-point game, then it goes to 15 at halftime. They turned us over at the end of the half and it was a great effort to get back in it. We've done that too much and haven't been able to get on the other end of it. The turnovers and 27 points off our turnovers is easy offense. Playing a team that leads the league in steals, you can't do that. It's such a big part of what they do offensively."
On rebounding improvements that led to the second half rally
"We get stops, multiple in a row, finally produce on offense and play in the paint. We shot a few three's in the first half and were 3-for-10, but couldn't get the ball on the side of [Chelsea Gardner] who was 10-for-13 at our place. We felt like that was a good matchup. It's hard work on her end to get the ball inside and be able to drive it, and it's hard work on the perimeter to drive it and make a good decision. Then we got some offensive rebounds and that's how we got to the free-throw line. I don't know how many we shot in the first half, but we had 17 in the second half. We didn't get a free-throw in the first half and we get one offensive rebound in that half, so as far as being aggressive it's more telling in the second half than the first."
