Midway through the second stanza of action, the Frogs used a 13-2 run to cut the Longhorn lead to seven at 39-32. During the stretch, TCU held UT scoreless from the field for over 6 minutes of action. Trailing by only seven with 9:18 showing on the clock after a Chauncey Collins three, the Longhorns answered with a 13-4 run to put the game out of reach.
On the night, TCU (14-10 overall; 1-10 Big 12) was carried by Kyan Anderson who scored a team-high 11 points, while also dishing out three assists. Fellow senior Amric Fields just missed a double-double with eight points on 4-of-7 from the field and a team and season-high seven boards. Collins added eight points, which included a 2-for-4 showing from the behind the arc.
Texas, who moved to 16-8 overall and 5-6 in league play, saw Javan Felix go for a game-high 16 points in his return, while Cameron Ridley added 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Trey Zeigler got the Frogs going right out of the gate in the second half as Anderson found the fellow senior for a layup early. A few plays later, Anderson tickled the twine from deep and the Purple and White continued to fight 4 minutes into the second period.
Fields made it a 37-24 ballgame with a little over 15 minutes remaining in the second, powering home a tough layup inside the paint and the Frogs weren't done yet, cutting it to 39-27 at the charity stripe.
Collins pulled TCU within 39-29 at the 11:53 mark, darting through the lane and finding the bottom of the net. In all, it was a 10-2 run for the Frogs during the stretch, which was spearheaded by relentless defensive pressure that forced Texas into several turnovers during the run.
With scoreboard 39-29 in slight favor of UT, Collins ripped the nets from deep with 10:41 showing on the clock and the Purple and White had all the momentum. The freshman continued his hot shooting from behind the arc a few plays later, scorching the nets once again to pull the Frogs within 42-36 with 9:18 left.
TCU couldn't complete the comeback though, dropping the season-series to the Longhorns.
After forcing a turnover on the opening possession of the game, Anderson drilled a triple to give the Frogs an early 3-0 lead. Texas responded scoring four-straight, but Fields would have nothing of it, finding the bottom of the net underneath the bucket with 15:49 showing in the first half, which made the score 5-4 in favor of the Purple and White.
Texas took a 10-5 lead midway through the opening frame, but Fields hit a mid-range jumper and then watched as Kenrich Williams dialed it up from deep to pull the Frogs within 12-10 at about the 10-minute mark.
The two teams would go back and forth the next couple of trips, but the Longhorns would widen the gap at 31-13 after a 19-3 run. Chris Washburn would end the run with about a minute left to go in the first half, scoring on a put-back after a miss by Anderson. In the end, Texas took a 31-16 lead into intermission.
