TCU 70, Oklahoma State 55
Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center
Attendance: 4,266
TCU Head Coach Trent Johnson
On the difference in the game to put TCU on top
"We made some shots and got some key stops. It's pretty simple and something we haven't been doing very well. They turn you over really well and are really good at defending. I thought we held their pressure pretty well."
On TCU's execution
"I thought for the most part, coming out of the second half when they [OSU] were up 32-28, our execution was pretty good in terms of moving the ball, sharing the ball and setting screens. We were in a good rhythm with everyone scoring, and they were in a good rhythm. For us to beat anyone good and compete with anyone good, we have to play like that. The key in all of it was that we made shots."
TCU guard Trey Zeigler
On the first win in many close games
"It's good to enjoy this win. We've been struggling, so to have a win like this at home, is good. In the last two minutes, we had a lot of momentum going for us, so it was fun to close out a game like that."
On their plan at the end of the game
"They kept answering, and we kept saying on the bench that we've got to get stops. We were scoring on offense, and we knew we had to get stops. Usually we have defensive breakdowns and teams make runs, but today we really locked in and that was good to see."
On Kenrich Williams
"He's our hustle guy, our junkyard dog. That's his role. Usually he guards the best player, whether it's a post player or a guard. Between the two of us, we guard the best perimeter guy, and he's our best offensive rebounder. He keeps us in a lot of possessions because of his hustle and his effort. We need him."
Oklahoma State center Mike Cobbins
On OSU's energy
"We just came out sluggish, and that's something that you can't do. I don't know where it came from, but it's sure to be corrected and we'll be back better than ever."
On the difference between this game and their previous wins
"We just weren't ready and it showed tonight. They beat us on the boards - that's an important battle in every game."
Oklahoma State Head Coach Travis Ford:
On the game overall
"I want to give TCU all the credit and congratulate them. They deserved to win. They played hard, played gutsy, made all the big shots and out-rebounded us. It's pretty good to score 70 points and not make a three. They deserved it tonight."
On Trent Johnson's job at TCU
"He's [Trent Johnson] got a nice team. They're still a new team. I know they jumped out and had a great nonconference, but it's still a new team to this league and they've gone through some tough games and losses. I respect the job that he's doing. I think his team is very gutsy, and I saw that in all of the other games I've watched."
