FORT WORTH -- Head coach Karen Monez has announced the signing of Casey Lutz to a National Letter of Intent. She will be a freshman in the fall of 2016.
"We are very excited that Casey will be joining the team next fall," said Monez. "With her level of enthusiasm and shooting background, it will be an easy transition for Casey to compete at the collegiate level."
Lutz, a native of Meridian, Idaho, has qualified for the National Junior Olympic Championships each of the last four years. The three-time Idaho State Champion in Air Rifle and Smallbore, Lutz has medaled at the NJOC's four straight years. In 2012, she won silver medal in the Air Rifle J3 category. She added a bronze medal in air rifle and smallbore in 2013 in the J2 category. In 2014, Lutz took home the gold medal in the air rifle J2 category. 2015 saw her claim a pair of medals as she earned a bronze in the air rifle J2 category and a silver in the smallbore J2 category.
"Casey is a hard worker that has set high goals for herself both in the classroom and with her shooting," raved Monez. "She is a talented individual with a great deal of potential that will help the team continue to compete at a high level."
In addition to shining at the NJOC's, she has competed at the USA Shooting National Championships the past three years. In 2013, she won a gold medal in the air rifle J2 category. She has qualified for the top eight junior finals in 2014 and also qualified for the smallbore open final in 2015.
She was one of 15 finalists invited to compete at the American Legion Air Rifle Championship in 2013 and 2015. In July at the 2015 American Legion Championships, held at the Olympic Training Center, Lutz fired two perfect 200 standing scores.
Lutz claimed her first open National Championship after shooting a 799 in 2015 at the NRA National Indoor Conventional Position Smallbore Rifle Championship. There were a total of 322 entries.
At her first World Cup in May, Lutz obtained the Olympic Minimum Qualifying Score in the air rifle event at the USA World Cup at Fort Benning, GA.
In addition to excelling on the range, Lutz has been a standout in the classroom. She is a member of the National Honor Society. Lutz is the founder and president of the Rocky Mountain High School Scholastic Marksmanship Club.
