POSTGAME QUOTES
No. 22 TCU 80, SDSU 63
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Jan. 16, 2010
Attendance: 2,518
TCU HEAD COACH Jeff Mittie
On how the game played out
"I thought this would be a real grind, and it was even though the (24-point lead in the second half) was not. Our players really attacked well. We felt like we need to attack the rim to put pressure and get them on their heels a little bit. We were able to get some of their key players in foul trouble in this game."
On TCU's defensive effort against SDSU guard Jene Morris
"She gets a lot of points off of the fast break points layups. One of the ways to stop her is to not turn the ball over. We really took care of the ball only turning it over 12 times, when (SDSU) averages forcing 20-21 turnovers a game. We did not want to give her any easy baskets and at half court we tried different things and trapped her in different defenses. I thought Eboni Mangum got off to a real physical and great start against her."
On bouncing back from the loss to Wyoming
"Wyoming has a quality team. We did not play poorly there. We missed opportunities early and dug ourselves a big hole. We had a great comeback and played very well in that game, we just could not get over that hump. I think San Diego State is an outstanding team. If they came in here and got this one today, people would be saying, 'Do we have a conference race or not?' It looks like we might have a conference race here, and I think they are that talented. I think this is going to be a grind-it-out league this year.
TCU SENIOR GUARD Eboni Mangum
On her defensive mindset against quality offensive players
"I take every game seriously and try to play my best every night. The game is anybody's if you do not take that mindset.
"I always want to play against the best. That determines how good you are and how good your team is, also."
On the team's defensive effort
"I think we played very well. Coach (Mittie) has been saying that we have not have a good game from start to finish. I think today we had that game, from the beginning to the end, but I feel like we can always do better."
