The TCU men's golf program had an extremely strong second month of the summer circuit as the Frogs claimed a pair of individual championships to go along with three total top-10 showings.
Tom Hoge (Fargo, N.D. | Fargo South H.S.)
Tom Hoge captured his first tournament of the summer circuit as the TCU junior notched gold medal accolades at the 106th Annual MGA Amateur Championship at the Mendakota Country Club in Mendota Heights, Minn. The 2009 honorable mention All-American notched a 54-hole score of 3-under-par 213 (74-67-72) to outlast Jon Sauer and Travis Ross by two strokes to capture the tournament crown.
Scott Roudebush (Austin, Texas | Austin H.S.)
Scott Roudebush captured his first tournament championship of the summer as the Austin native recorded a playoff victory at the 2009 Firecracker Open at the Lions Municipal Golf Course. After 54 holes of action, Roudebush and Matt Smith of St. Edward's (Texas) University were tied at 13-under-par then proceeded to go to sudden death where play was suspended due to darkness after six holes. After the six holes of action, Roudebush and Smith remained tied and for the first time in Firecracker Open history, the tournament went to a fourth day.
On the final day, Roudebush and Smith remained even after the first hole of the day then the TCU junior was able to claim the tournament championship on the par-five second hole. After reaching the green in two shots, Roudebush missed an eagle putt, but came back to sink the birdie putt to beat Smith, who finished with par on the hole.
Travis Woolf (Fort Worth, Texas | Paschal H.S.)
Travis Woolf recorded top amateur laurels at the 2009 Chesapeake Energy Texas State Open at The Cascades in Tyler, Texas, after finishing with a 7-under-par score of 273. The TCU senior earned a spot at the Texas State Open after qualifying at Waterchase Golf Club earlier in the summer months, and Woolf made the most of his opportunity as he finished 10th overall en route to tying Chris Ward of Texas Tech for top amateur accolades.
