ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 27 TCU women's tennis team routed Mountain West Conference foe Wyoming Friday with a 7-0 shutout at the Randy Briggs Tennis Bubble. The Horned Frogs improved to 12-9 overall for the season, while advancing their league record to 6-1.
TCU jumped to an early advantage in doubles action, due to the fact that Wyoming could not fill all three flights because of a five-player roster.
Senior Anna Sydorska and sophomore Idunn Hertzberg clinched the doubles tally for the Frogs with an 8-2 decision over Rebecca Berger and Jamie Nelson. Sydorksa is now one doubles win shy of tying former All-American Rene Simpson for the second-most doubles victories in TCU history.
Sophomore Katariina Tuohimaa and freshman Kayla Duncan also picked up a doubles win for TCU, defeating Sarah Summerfield and Carly Van Hollen at the No. 1 flight by the score of 8-3.
TCU jumped to an early 2-0 lead over Wyoming with a win by default for sophomore Maria Babanova from the No. 6 position. Sydorska followed with her fourth-straight singles win after taking down Carolina Chaix by the score of 6-0, 6-2.also picked up a doubles win for TCU, defeating Jamie Nelson and Rebecca Berger at the No. 2 flight by the score of 8-2.
Gaby Mastromarino clinched the match for the Frogs, putting TCU up 4-0 with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Nelson at the No. 4 slot. The victory was the ninth of the year for the newcomer Tequesta, Fla.
"We have been playing well as a team and we wanted to come out and keep the flow going," Mastromarino said. "Everyone has been focusing really well and it felt good to earn the clinching point for my team."
Wrapping up the afternoon for TCU, Tuohimaa snared her first career win from the top position, topping Summerfield with ease, 6-4, 6-2. Hertzberg also won her 12th match of the season, defeating Van Hollen by a score of 6-3, 6-7 (5), 11-9 at the No. 3 position, despite being down 7-4 in the third set match tie-break.
The Frogs will play in their MWC regular season finale tonight against Colorado State at 10 a.m.
