POSTGAME QUOTES
TCU 53, Utah 47
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
March 7, 2009
Head Coach Jeff Mittie
On the game:
"Neither team could find much offense today. It was a hard game to find ways to score. Fortunately, we were able to impose our will a bit, I thought, in the second half by being physical and getting to the rim and free-throw line. Having only seven turnovers helps us stay in the game, because we got pounded on the glass. We could not afford to turn it over today."
On the second half:
"We seemed tentative (in the first half) and didn't pass the ball or move the ball effectively. We did drive it better in areas and were more aggressive in the second half."
On TCU's advantage at the free-throw line:
"We play a lot of zone. If we do our job and don't foul jump shooters, teams shouldn't get to the line much. Obviously, that's by design. We were willing to give some shots up, not from (Morgan) Warburton or (Kaylee) Whipple, but we can't have them go to the free-throw line."
On senior center Micaela Younger:
"Micki was huge for us today. She gave us energy and I would think that whomever we had guarding Warburton and Whipple should thank her, because she really did a great job of helping. She was huge for us today."
On reaching 20 wins for the eighth time in the last nine years:
"That's always special. I think that says you've had a solid year. In basketball it's a benchmark number, and we've been fortunate to have some good players play well for us here. I'm certainly pleased with this win and proud of this group for finding a way to win this game, because we did not play as well as we are capable of playing. Utah had a lot to do with that, but we were able to find a way to win."
