TCU begins Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

MALIBU, Calif. - The TCU women's tennis team began the Riviera/ITA All- American Championships with the first day of pre-qualifying Saturday on the campus of Pepperdine University. The day was highlighted with a doubles win over Florida and two singles victories from senior Macall Harkins.
In singles prequalifying, Harkins defeated Evgeniya Vertasheva from Cal State-Northridge, 6-2, 6-2. In the following round, Harkins topped Virginia's No. 106 Amanda Rales, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3. The Palos Verdes, Calif., native is scheduled to take on Carolina Escamilla from Kentucky Sunday.
Also in singles action, senior Anna Sydorska fell to Wichita State's Lutflana Budiharto, 6-0, 6-2, while sophomore Katariina Tuohimaa dropped her opening match to Arkansas' Anouk Tigu, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles play, the duo of junior Nina Munch-Soegaard and sophomore Maria Babanova took care of their opening match, defeating the team of Revzina/Mather from Florida, 8-5. The pair will take on Wichita State's team of Budiharto/Dalmacio Sunday.
Suffering their first loss with TCU, freshmen Kayla Duncan and Gaby Mastromarino dropped their match to the duo of Meijia/Eichkorn from Miami (FL), 8-4. Sophomores Idunn Hertzberg and Tuohimaa also fell in their first action at the hands of Duke's pair of Iyer/Robinson, 8-4.
