TCU Sweeps through second day at Rainbow Wahine

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The TCU women's tennis team swept all twelve matches in the second day of the 2008 Rainbow Wahine Invitational, sweeping all four doubles matches and eight singles meetings against the University of Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific University and UC-Santa Barbara.
"We had a very good day today," head coach Jefferson Hammond said. "We battled back in a couple of matches and I am extremely happy with our performance and look forward to tomorrow."
For the second-straight day, TCU swept through the doubles matches. The Horned Frogs' No. 9 duo of Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska topped UCSB's pairing of Tova Hausman and Natalia Lozano, 8-0. Idunn Hertzberg and Katariina Tuohiima defeated the Hawaii's duo of Sophie Kobuch and Melinda Wong, 8-4, while the freshman squad of Kayla Duncan and Gaby Mastromarino topped HPU's team of Nina and Tinka Mihova, 8-1. To round out the doubles duties, Nina Munch-Soegaard and Maria Babanova defeated Michelle Murphy and Asagi Onaga from UCSB, 8-2.
In singles action, No. 47 Munch-Soegaard topped Hausman (UCSB), 6-1, 6-1, while No. 95 Sydorska finished off Murphy (UH), 7-6 (3), 6-3. Harkins took her match against HPU's Vickova, 6-1, 6-0, and Babanova had to battle back to defeat Hawaii's Alyssa Nafarrete, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
Mastromarino and Tuohimaa bounced back Friday after dropping their singles matches on the opening day of the tournament, taking down Ageychik from HPU 6-7 (10), 6-1, 6-2, and UCSB's Onaga 6-3, 6-1, respectively. Duncan defeated UCSB's Jean 2-6, 6-0, 6-0, while Hertzberg completed the day for TCU, finishing off HPU's Nina Mihova, 6-1, 6-0.
The Frogs will complete the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Saturday.
