TCU kicks-off Rainbow Wahine Invitational

HONOLULU, Hawai'I - The TCU women's tennis team shined bright to open the 2008 Rainbow Wahine Invitational, sweeping all four doubles matches and taking six out of eight singles meetings against the University of Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific University and UC-Santa Barbara.
"Our team is really starting to come together and playing well," head coach Jefferson Hammond said. "Our doubles teams look great and I thought we had a really good first day."
TCU swept through the doubles matches to take the early lead in the contest. Kayla Duncan and Katariina Tuohiima defeated the UCSB's duo of Natalia Lozano and Asagi Onaga by a score of 8-5, while Anna Sydorska and Gaby Mastromarino downed Hawaii's Sophie Kobuch and Natasha Zorec 8-3. Macall Harkins and Maria Babanova topped UH's Alyssa Nafarrete and Melinda Wong, 8-4, and Nina Munch-Soegaard and Idunn Hertzberg completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over HPU's duo of Ageychik/Wikstrom.
In singles action, No. 47 Munch-Soegaard topped No. 69 Kobuch (UH), 6-3, 7-6 (6), while No. 95 Sydorska finished off Zorec (UH), 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Harkins took her match against Lozano (UCSB), 6-2, 6-1, and Babanova defeated HPU's Wikstrom, 6-0, 2-1 (retired). Duncan and Hertzberg also won their matches, finishing off USCB's Bryanna Ojeda, 6-2, 6-1, and HPU's Mihova 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
The Frogs will resume with the second day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational Friday.
