Impressive 2007-08 schedule awaits TCU golf team

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head men's golf coach Bill Montigel has announced the 2007-08 schedule, and the Horned Frogs, who annually boast one of the nation's elite slates, will again face a formidable schedule in his 21st season.
"Since we'll have a young team this year, I tried to build a schedule with a few things in mind," Montigel said. "I felt it would be important to see how we measure up to some of the best teams in the country and I wanted the chance to play difficult courses that will prepare us for the postseason, but I also wanted our young guys positioned to achieve success. I think this schedule accomplishes those goals and I'm looking forward to the season."
TCU, which will compete four times in the fall, begins the season with the same two opening events as last year. The Horned Frogs start out at the Inverness Intercollegiate (Sept. 10-11) at the historic Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, and then will play in the Carpet Capital Collegiate (Sept. 14-16) at the Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.
The Frogs will make their debut at the Macdonald Cup hosted by Yale on the university's course Oct. 6-7. TCU closes out the fall semester Oct. 15-16 at the Prestige at PGA West in Palm Desert, Calif. The tournament annually hosts the top academic and golf playing institutions in the country.
TCU lifts the lid on the spring season in style by heading to Hawaii for the UH Hilo Intercollegiate Feb. 6-8. That appearance will be followed up by a visit to the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic (Mar. 10-11).
The Frogs will get a preview of the Mountain West Conference Championships site from Mar. 23-25 at the National Invitational Tournament at Tucson National. The MWC Championships will take place at the resort Apr. 24-26.
Prior to the league tournament, TCU will play in two top-notch tournaments, Texas' Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin (Apr. 7-8) and the U.S. Intercollegiate hosted by 2007 national champion Stanford (Apr. 19-20) in Stanford, Calif.
TCU concludes the regular season by competing at The Maxwell May 10-11. The tournament, hosted by Oklahoma State at Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club, will lead into the postseason portion of the slate.
This year's NCAA Regionals will be held May 15-17 at three sites: Chattanooga, Tenn., Columbus, Ohio, and Bremerton, Wash. The 2008 NCAA Championships are May 28-31 in West Lafayette, Ind.
TCU is one of fewer than 20 schools nationally to reach the regionals each year since 1990.
