TCU women's tennis drops No. 55 SMU, 7-0

DALLAS, Texas - The No. 39 TCU women's tennis team cruised past No. 55 SMU by a score of 7-0 on Wednesday at the Garland Tennis Center en route to a third consecutive win on the road. The Frogs improved to 7-4 on the season, while SMU dropped to 8-4.
"Our true character came out today," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "We're really starting to show just how tough we really are."
Nina Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols recorded the first win of the day over SMU's Claire Rietsch and Georgiana Marta by a score of 8-3. With SMU down to only five players for the match, the No. 7 duo of Ana Cetnik and Anna Sydorska were able to clinch the doubles point with an 8-5 victory over Jennifer Chay and Pavi Francis.
No. 37 Cetnik tallied the first singles win of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Rietsch in the No. 2 slot. Nichols upped the score to 3-0 by recording her fifth consecutive victory with a straight sets defeat of Marta, 6-2, 6-4. No. 84 Munch-Soegaard clinched the match for TCU at the No. 3 position as the freshman downed Francis by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. SMU's Francis was currently riding a six-match singles winning streak before the defeat.
No. 104 Sydorska cruised to her ninth consecutive singles win with a 6-4, 7-5 defeat of Chay in the No. 1 slot. Morgado rounded out today's action with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Monica Neveklovska.
"We played a complete match from top to bottom, and it's good to see a complete effort across the board," added TCU assistant coach Colin Foster. "We have a lot to build on going into some tough matches over spring break."
The TCU women will return to action on March 14 as they face No. 42 USF in Fresno, Calif., at 5 p.m. CT.
