
TCU women's tennis defeats Texas State, UTA

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 16 TCU women's tennis team defeated both Texas State and UT-Arlington, 5-2, on Tuesday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The two wins improved TCU's overall record to 3-2, while dropping Texas State to 3-4 and UTA to 3-1.
"Today was the first time we have had two matches in one day during my time at TCU, and I was impressed with our performance," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "We were not at full strength, yet we played with a lot of heart and our great level of fitness showed today."
The Frogs began the day against Texas State, where they jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. The duo of Nina Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols recorded an 8-1 victory over Texas State's Andrea Giraldo and Ali Gulida, and the tandem of Anna Sydorska and Andrea Morgado clinched the point with an 8-2 victory over Ashley Ellis and Lainy Chafitz.
Nichols was the first Frog to record a singles victory against the Bobcats, defeating Chafitz 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 slot. Munch-Soegaard followed, downing Andrea Giraldo in No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-0. No. 100 Anna Sydorska clinched the match point for the Frogs with a defeat of Ashley Ellis in the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Andrea Morgado also got in the win column with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ali Gulida.
The women also won the doubles point to kick off the match against cross-town rival UTA. Karine Ionesco and Gabby Lopez teamed up to defeat UTA's Sofya Lifanova and Marissa Brown 8-3 in the No. 3 slot. Nichols and Munch-Soegaard clinched the point with an 8-4 victory over Daniela Novakova and Sara Pesic in the No. 2 slot, boosting their overall season record to 5-0 in doubles action. Sydorska and Morgado also grabbed a win, defeating the duo of Peciulionyte and van Rooyen 8-5.
Ionesco kicked off singles action with a win for the Frogs, defeating Brown 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 slot. Morgado was the next to record a victory, downing Lifanova by a score of 6-0, 6-0. With the match score at 3-1, Sydorska clinched the victory for the Frogs with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Peciulionyte in the No. 1 spot. Nichols also went on to record a win, downing van Rooyen 6-4, 6-4.
The Frogs will return to the court on Thursday, when they travel to College Station, Texas, to face the No. 29 Aggies of Texas A&M at 6 p.m.
