Frogs complete opening day at Las Vegas Invite

LAS VEGAS - The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in five events on Saturday as the Frogs completed the first of three days at the Las Vegas Invite.
Seniors Scott McCracken and Jonathon Berrettini recorded the top finishes for the Frogs on Saturday, placing second and third, respectively, in the `A' final. In the preliminary event, McCracken finished first among 131 swimmers with a time of 20.31, followed by Berrettini in second with a time of 20.69.
Josh Bagby and Ben Iannacone also competed in the 50-free finals, placing 10th and 20th, respectively. Bagby swam to a time of 20.87 in the finals, while Iannacone earned a time of 21.68.
In the 200-IM event, Edgar Peyro swam to a 17th-place showing after winning the `C' final with a time of 1:54.70, while Peter Todd followed in 20th spot with a time of 1:56.28.
Five swimmers represented TCU in the 500-free finals, as Jason Hauck and Jeff Hendricks led the way with 18th and 19th-place finishes, respectively. Hauck earned a time of 4:43.55 in the finals, while Hendricks notched a clocking of 4:43.70.
The men led off the evening session with a bang, as the 200-free relay team of McCracken, Iannacone, Berrettini and Bagby took the top spot in a time of 1:22.24.
Freshman Kyle Callens highlighted diving action for the men, placing second out of 22 competitors in the one-meter with a score of 257.55. R.J. Hesselberg followed in seventh with a score of 235.75.
On the women's side, freshmen Brittney Martinez and Jessica Miles both earned trips to the finals. Martinez finished 15th (24.59) in the 50-free finals after winning her respective heat in the preliminaries. Miles placed 15th in the 500-free finals with a time of 5:10.26.
In the relay events, the 200-free relay squad of Martinez, Natalie Melenric, Mychala Lynch and Nikki Pappas led TCU with a 10th-place showing (1:38.26). The 400-medley relay team of Martinez, Katie Rosen, Melenric and Pappas led the women with a ninth-place finish (3:58.30).
