FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's tennis head coach Jefferson Hammond announced the signing of Gabriela Mastromarino to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday (Nov. 21), becoming the second prep player to sign with the Horned Frogs for the fall of 2008.
"We are absolutely thrilled to sign Gaby to come play tennis at TCU," said Hammond. "We feel she is going to be an outstanding collegiate player. She has already competed very well at the highest level of junior tennis."
The Tequesta, Fla., product is currently ranked No. 14 in Florida and is considered a five-star recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net. Mastromarino reached the semifinals of the Florida Open Championships and the quarterfinals of the Florida State Closed. Mastromarino also teamed up with her father, Tom, to claim the U.S. National Father/Daughter Clay Court Championship, winning a coveted gold ball.
At Jupiter High School, Mastromarino played in the No. 1 spot and won the state doubles title her junior season.
"Gaby has a big game that is accented by her serve and she has the ability to play different styles which gives her the opportunity to pick on her opponent's weaknesses. She is very solid off of the ground and can crash the net with equal success. Her work in the classroom and her strong character must be mentioned as well. We feel very lucky that Gaby ended up choosing TCU."
