Three Frogs advance at Southwest Regional

LUBBOCK, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team completed another successful day at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championship in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday.
The three TCU seeded players in the singles draw advanced to the round of 32 to be played on Sunday. After trailing 5-1 in the first set, No. 3 Macall Harkins fought back to defeat Zuzana Chmelarova by a score of 7-5, 6-1.
No. 4 Anna Sydorska also won a tough match, defeating Rice's Varsha Shiva-Shankar by a score of 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. No. 5 Nina Munch-Soegaard cruised past Sarah Lancaster of Texas, 6-3, 6-3.
TCU freshman Idunn Hertzberg fell in the opening round of the main draw to Pavi Francis of SMU, 6-2, 7-5, while fellow newcomer Maria Babanova advanced in the first round of the consolation draw, defeating Shannon MacKenzie of North Texas, 6-1, 6-3.
The top-seeded duo of Harkins and Sydorska won their opening round match, defeating Lamar's Aranda and Kuroda 8-1 to advance to the round of 16. The TCU duo of Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols fell 9-8(5) to Davison and Larsson of Texas, while Hertzberg and Andrea Morgado lost by a score of 8-2 to No. 2 Broosova and Zemenova of Baylor.
