
Frogs fall to Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The TCU women's swimming and diving team fell to Colorado State on Thursday at the Moby Pool by a score of 144-90. The loss drops the Horned Frogs to 0-1 overall, while the Rams improve to 2-0."Half of our team is made up of freshmen, so we will get better as we gain more experience," said TCU head coach Richard Sybesma. "Stephanie Futscher and Katie Rosen both recorded some very competitive times, especially at altitude."
Futscher, a sophomore from Irving, Texas, won the 200-fly event in a time of 2:06.70. Rosen also added a victory for the Frogs in the 200-breast (2:24.88).
Two freshmen, Melanie Cruthirds and Mychala Lynch, both earned third-place finishes. Cruthirds recorded a time of 1:57.73 in the 200-free, while Lynch earned a clocking of 25.26 in a tight finish in the 50-free.
The Frogs had an impressive showing in the 400-IM event, as Meredith Grubb raced to a second-place finish (4:41.43), followed by Cheryl Townsend in third (4:41.56).
Townsend, a junior from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, also placed third in the 200-back in a time of 2:10.87.
In relay action, the team of Natalie Melenric, Grubb, Cruthirds and Nikki Pappas recorded a solid second-place finish in the 200-free relay with a time of 1:40.28. The team of Crystal Shipps, Maribeth Pottenger, Melenric and Lynch kicked off the meet with a third-place showing in the 200-medley relay (1:51.85).
