Frogs defeat New Mexico, 132-97

Albuquerque, N.M. - Tara Sullivan and Cheryl Townsend both won two events to lead the TCU women's swimming and diving team (10-4, 3-4) to a 132-97 victory over New Mexico (5-4, 2-3). The win on Friday put the women at the 10-win mark for the sixth consecutive season.
"We're happy to get the win today because we know New Mexico is a tough team to beat at their pool," said TCU head coach Richard Sybesma.
Senior Tara Sullivan won her first event of the meet in the 200-free, recording a time of 1:55.84. Karen Sandifer and Meredith Grubb followed to sweep the medal positions. Sullivan grabbed her second win in the 100-free event with a time of 53.95.
Cheryl Townsend also recorded two wins, taking the 200-IM in a time of 2:09.66, as fellow Frogs Keleigh Wentworth and Christi Cannon followed in second and third, respectively. Townsend, a native of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, posted her second win in the 200-back with a time of 2:06.31.
Erica Tate and Keilah Walker also made their way into the win column against the Lobos. Tate took the top spot in the 50-free (23.80) to move to 8-1 in the event in dual meets on the season. Walker recorded a time of 10.43.81 to win the 1000-free, as Michelle Pottenger and Sarah Bardwell rounded out the medal positions.
Jennifer Ferguson led the TCU divers with two second-place showings. In the one-meter dive, Ferguson recorded a season-high score of 315.67, while earning a score of 265.42 in the three-meter event.
The TCU women swept the relay events, as the team of Lori Birkhead, Maribeth Pottenger, Erica Tate and Natalie Melenric kicked off the meet with a win in the 400-medley relay in a time of 3:58.04. The 400-free relay team of Karen Sandifer, Tara Sullivan, Natalie Melenric and Erica Tate concluded the meet in winning fashion with a time of 3:35.24.
The women's swimming and diving team will return to action on Jan. 24, when they will travel to Denton, Texas, to meet North Texas and Incarnate Word.
