WACO, Texas - Talk about starting the season off right.
TCU's 24th-ranked duo in the nation, senior Ana Cetnik and sophomore Anna Sydorska, proved why their one of the nation's best pairs Sunday, as they won the 2006 Baylor Fall Invitational. The Cetnik/Sydorska team defeated Baylor's Zuzana Cerna and Lenka Broosova, 8-4, in the finals of the Gold Draw.
"Ana and Anna played with a steady flow and really worked on technical items," first-year TCU interim head coach Jefferson Hamilton said. "They got better as the tournament progressed and we were awarded for consistent play."
TCU competed in its first fall women's tennis tournament of the season this weekend with three individual players and two pairs. The Horned Frogs took 4-of-6 contests (singles and doubles combined) against host Baylor.
In the Gold Consolation Draw, the Frogs' Kewa Nichols and Karine Ionesco advanced to the finals, thanks to a 9-8(3) marathon win over Tulsa's Santie Delporte and Marta Marcinkowska. The pair eventually fell to Sam Houston State's Irina Sotnikova and Lata Assudani (8-5) in the consolation finale.
