FORT WORTH, Texas - Seniors Helena Besovic and Gloriann Lopez played in their final regular-season home match at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Sunday as the 23rd-ranked TCU Horned Frogs blanked Washington, 7-0. With the win, the Frogs improved to 12-6 overall.
"I thought it was a good match," explained TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "We played well and it is good preparation for our conference matches coming up. It is always nice to win the last one for the seniors."
Sophomore Andrea Morgado and freshman Anna Sydorska began the day by recording an 8-2 victory over Tara Simpson and Stephanie Svanfeldt at No. 2. The Frogs clinched the doubles point after the sophomore tandem of Nicole Leimbach and Kewa Nichols bounced Allison Rainey and Melinda Wong at No. 3.
Besovic and junior Ana Cetnik, currently ranked 59th in the ITA polls for doubles play, completed TCU's doubles sweep with an 8-5 decision at No. 1.
After Washington defaulted at court No. 6 to begin singles play, Nichols blasted past Wong 6-0, 6-1 to stretch TCU's lead to 3-0.
Cetnik clinched the match for the Frogs with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4
Besovic concluded her Senior Day with a 6-3, 6-3 ousting of Simpson at No. 2. Ranked 35th in the ITA singles polls, Besovic now holds a record of 14-3.
Leimbach grabbed her second win of the match with a tough 6-3, 7-5 victory over Dinka Hadzic. Holding the No. 11 spot in the singles poll, Leimbach has won five of her last six matches to move to 10-4 for the spring season.
93rd-ranked Sydorska closed the afternoon with a thrilling 7-6(4), 4-6, (10-8) triumph at No. 3 over Victoria Brymer. With the win, Sydorska improved to 12-4 on the season and has won five-straight matches.
The Frogs return to Mountain West Conference action on Friday when they travel to Provo, Utah, to take on No. 27 BYU. Match time is slated for 1 p.m (CST).
