TCU women's tennis falls to Virginia, 4-3

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 19 TCU women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to No. 65 Virginia on Wednesday afternoon. Ranked No. 12 in the current ITA polls for singles, sophomore Nicole Leimbach posted a 6-2, 7-5 win over Douglas Wink for her third-straight victory.
The Cavaliers grabbed a 1-0 lead after taking two-of-three doubles matches. No. 33 Kristen James and Lori Stern defeated TCU's No. 15 team of senior Helena Besovic and freshman Anna Sydorska 8-3 at court No. 1. Virginia captured the doubles point when Caroline Hammond and Amanda Rales defeated sophomores Kewa Nichols and Andrea Morgado.
Juniors Ana Cetnik and Karine Ionesco registered an 8-4 victory over Douglass Wink and Rachel DelPriore at No. 2.
TCU knotted the score at 1-1 when No. 82 Sydorska defeated Stern 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Hailing from Lviv, Ukraine, Sydorska is now 7-3 on the season and is ranked in both singles and doubles.
Leimbach gave the Frogs their first lead of the afternoon with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Wink at No. 1. With the win, Leimbach has won her third-straight match to improve to 5-2 on the season.
The match saw its second tie of the afternoon as No. 125 DelPriore defeated No. 105 Cetnik 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 to knot the tally at 2-2.
Besovic, ranked No. 41 in the latest ITA polls, prevailed 6-3, 6-2 over James at No. 2 to bring the Frogs within one point of the victory.
Virginia's Lindsey Pereira brought the match to its third tie after edging Nichols 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 5. The Cavaliers clinched the match when Rales recorded a 6-1, 7-6, 6-2 victory over Ionesco.
With the loss, TCU fell to 7-4 on the season. The Frogs travel to Williamsburg, Va., Friday to take on No. 28 William & Mary. Match time is scheduled for noon.
