
TCU women continue day two at Wilson/ITA Southwest Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team continued play at the 2006 Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Friday on the campus of TCU. The Frogs are hosting both the men's and women's regionals through Monday at Friedman Tennis Center.
In singles action, the Frogs went 3-3 on the day. Fifth-seeded Anna Sydorska dominated Vicky Simpson (UH) 6-0, 6-1 and 16th-seeded Kewa Nichols defeated Texas' Stephanie Divison 6-1, 7-6(7-5). Melissa Bere picked up a victory in the qualifying round of singles but her results are unknown at this time. TCU 's No. 7-seed Ana Cetnik fell to Texas' Vanja Corovic 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 and fourth-seeded Petra Dizdar (UTA) beat the Frogs' Karine Ionesco 6-0, 6-0. Rookie Nina Munch-Soegaard came up short (6-3, 6-3) to Marisa Durss of Texas A&M.
The Horned Frogs continued to play well in doubles action and posted a 3-2 record on the day. The Cetnik and Sydorska pair, a second seed and ranked No. 24 in the nation, overpowered Tanya Hasking and Karen Scida, 8-1. Fifteenth-seeded Munch-Soegaard and Nichols defeated Anastasiya Dubova and Tiffany Tucker, 8-5. Bere and Ionesco fell 8-1 to the seventh-seeded Megan Falcon/Hannah Robinson duo.

"We won two of three doubles matches in the main draw so that was a positive," said TCU interim head coach Jefferson Hammond. "That puts us to the third round so we hope to have a productive day Saturday."
