Fort Worth, Texas - Seven members of the TCU women's tennis team were recognized today when the Southwest Regional rankings were announced. Junior Helena Besovic and Story Tweedie-Yates highlighted the group as they were the first and second, respectively, of the 30 ranked players in singles. In doubles, Besovic and senior Karla Mancinas were tabbed as the second best tandem in the region that consists of such schools as Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and conference rival, Tulane.
Besovic, a transfer from Ouachita Baptist University, compiled a 15-4 record this fall and won the ITA Southwest Regional. In October, Besovic was named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month after she posted a 12-1 mark and qualified for the ITA National Indoor Championship.
Tweedie-Yates, a transfer from Stanford University, finished the fall with an 11-2 record. In the opening tournament of the year, Tweedie-Yates won her first professional tournament at the Matamoros Tournament. She then followed it up by advancing to the quarterfinals at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship, where she defeated five ranked opponents.
Junior Gloriann Lopez was ranked 18th in the region after she posted a 3-4 record in limited action this fall. In the ITA Southwest Region at College Station, the junior advanced to the Round of 16 before falling to Dorottya Magas of Tulane.
Besovic and Mancinas were the second ranked doubles team after they advanced to the final of the regional where they fell to Daniella Covello and Zuzana Cerna of Baylor. The pair finished the fall season with an 8-3 record after competing in three events.
Tweedie-Yates and freshman Kewa Nichols finished as the No. 4 ranked team despite playing together in only one event for the Frogs. The pair finished with a 4-1 record with their only loss coming to their teammates, Besovic/Mancinas, in the semifinals of the regional.
Senior Paige Brown and freshman Andrea Morgado round out TCU's recognition in the rankings as they finished 13th. The pair won the Mean Green Invitational in their first competition of the season and went on to post a team-high nine wins versus only four losses.
