CHICAGO, Ill. - Tulane's Ana Saaibi and the TCU combination of Paty Aburto and Rosa Perez were named the Outstanding Singles Player and Doubles Team, respectively, of the 2003 C-USA Women's Tennis Championship. Saaibi helped the Green Wave claim team title, while Aburto and Perez helped the Horned Frogs to a runner-up finish.
Saaibi was instrumental in Tulane's run to its second C-USA crown by posting match-clinching victory at the No. 5 singles spot in the Wave's semifinal and finals matches. Against Houston, she recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the Cougars' Kami Miller and then she sealed the championship with a 7-6, 6-2 defeat of TCU's Iris Jaklin. Saaibi was 3-0 in championship play. Saaibi was a second team All-Conference USA selection this year.
Aburto and Perez, currently ranked 59th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, helped the Horned Frogs reach their second straight C-USA final in only their second season of competition with a pair of doubles wins against Marquette's Michelle Mojzis and Anna Pavlovic (8-3) in the second round and Louisville's Marie Louise Frolich-Hansen and Kelly Taylor (8-2) in the semifinals. Aburto and Perez both earned All-C-USA First Team honors.
