TCU Women Take 5-4 Win at Hawai'i

HONOLULU (Mar. 14) -- TCU's Dorrit Huppes, Leoni Weirich and Jessika Kjellgren picked up singles victories and the Horned Frogs took two of three doubles matches as TCU knocked off Hawaii, 5-4, in a WAC women's tennis match Monday afternoon at the UH Tennis Courts on the campus of the University of Hawaii.
TCU's singles victories came at the No.2, No.3 and No.4 positions as Huppes knocked off UH's Susie Saunders in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) at the No.2 position. At No.3, Weirich defeated UH's Lynn Novack, 6-2, 6-1, and Kjellgren defeated UH's Georgina Sesto at No.4 by a 6-2, 6-0 count. TCU's number one singles player, Lucie Dvorakova, lost a 6-1, 6-0 verdict to UH's Nina Wenger. Hawaii also picked up wins at number five and six singles as Petra Holma knocked off TCU's Debbie Bell at No. 5, 7-5, 6-4, and Stacey Hakikawa defeated TCU's Brenna Shackelford at No.6 by a 6-2, 6-4 count.
TCU's victories at the number two and three doubles made the difference. Dvorakova teamed with Stacey Sabala to give TCU an 8-3 win at No.2 over Hawaii's Saunders and Novack. TCU's Weirich and Kjellgren knocked off UH's Holma and Jennifer Oshita, 8-5, to take the win at the No.3 spot. Hawaii's lone doubles victory came as Wenger and Hakikawa defeated TCU's Huppes and Bell at the number one spot by an 8-6 margin.
