McGovern, Swathwood tied for ninth entering final round
SHIZUOKA, Japan – TCU is knocking on the door of the top of the leaderboard of the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League tournament with 18 holes remaining.
The Horned Frogs jumped into second place following round two of the multinational affair on Thursday at Grand Fields Country Club in Mishima, Shizuoka, Japan. TCU finished eight strokes over par, bringing its 36-hole total to 12-over 580.
Gracie McGovern and Claire Swathwood will both start Friday's final 18 holes tied for ninth at three strokes over par (145).
Ella Forss headlined the Frogs' round with an even par 71. The freshman vaulted 10 spots up the leaderboard to T14 and one shot back of McGovern and Swathwood.
Forss, from Gothenburg, Sweden, signed for a one-under 34 on the back nine to level her second round scorecard. She and McGovern tallied four birdies apiece.
McGovern and Camille Min-Gaultier both carded a two-over 73.
All five Horned Frogs maintained top-25 positioning. Min-Gaultier is tied for 19th at six-over 148. Yvette O'Brien, one of three TCU players to post a par-or-better round thus far, sits T22 (+7, 149).
TCU trails tournament host Nihon University, a school in Tokyo, by 16 strokes. The Horned Frogs hold a three-shot lead over San Jose State and University of St. Andrews for second place.
No team finished under par in round two. The Horned Frogs fired the third-lowest score of any program.
TCU is one of four Division I programs competing. The tournament field features five Japanese universities and teams from Europe, South Korea and Taiwan.
The Horned Frogs will tee off for round three at 9:30 a.m. on Friday in Japan, which is 7:30 p.m. CT on Thursday.
