EUGENE, Ore. – TCU's Jayden Douglas opened competition for the Horned Frogs at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by lowering his own school record in the 400m hurdles and advancing to the finals on Wednesday night at Hayward Field.
The Big 12 Champion in the event, Douglas ran in the first of three heats at the national meet. With 24 athletes competing for nine spots in Friday's final, he needed to finish top-two in his section or post one of the next three best times to qualify. The junior didn't leave anything to chance, winning his heat in 49.22.
His time was a tenth of a second faster than his gold medal winning run at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships last month in Tucson, Arizona.
Douglas' time also ranks fifth out of the nine advancing to the final. He will look to chase down Texas A&M's Ja'Qualon Scott and challenge the field for a National Championship on Friday at 8:27 p.m. CT. He also has his sights set on history as he is set to become the first male All-American hurdler at TCU.
The women are up next at the Outdoor Championships on Thursday, June 11. The Frogs are slated to compete in four events beginning at 7:05 p.m.
