FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Despite start times adjusted earlier for the first day of the NCAA West Regional, TCU track and field's Jayden Douglas, Ronnie Kendrick and Mohamed Kowa all secured their spots in the finals on Wednesday afternoon at John McDonnell Field.
Hoping to beat the rain, races were moved up five hours. Still, the Horned Frogs' men were able to lock in and advance one step closer to punching their tickets to the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, as the field was narrowed down from 48 to 24 competitors in each event.
In the 400m, Ronnie Kendrick finished third in his heat, earning an automatic qualifier spot into Friday's event final as one of the top three athletes in his heat. His time of 46.15 sits at No. 20 in the West. He'll look to climb into the top 12 to continue his season at the national meet.
His teammate Evander Thomas also competed in the 400m. The sophomore ended a strong outdoor campaign with a 46.40, just missing a spot in the finals by 0.22.
Middle-distance runner Mohamed Kowa ran a gritty 800m race. He crossed the line fourth in his heat, missing auto spot in the final, but his time of 1:47.99 held up as one of the next six best times to advance him through. Kowa currently sits in 17th with work to do to move up into the top 12 on Friday.
Jayden Douglas rounded out the afternoon for TCU in the 400m hurdles. The Big 12 Champion in the event cruised his way around the track, easing up as he comfortably crossed the finish line second in his heat with a time of 50.13. He is looking to make his way back to the championship meet for the second straight year in the event after qualifying last season. With the No. 4 overall time on the day, Douglas looks to be in good position to punch his ticket in Friday's final.
As rain rolled in later in the afternoon, the men's pole vault was postponed until Thursday afternoon. Ben Kirbo, the lone Frog set to compete, will now jump at 2:40 p.m. CT.
