TCU junior tees off in round one on Friday in Carlsbad, California
FORT WORTH – For the second straight season and fourth time in the last five years, the Horned Frogs will have representation at the grand finale of college golf.
TCU junior Kirstin Angosta begins play at the NCAA National Championships on Friday at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Angosta was one of six individual qualifiers for the 30-team, 156-player affair. She finished as the outright runner-up at the NCAA Waco Regional on May 13, shooting a six-under 204 at Ridgewood Country Club to punch her ticket.
Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Angosta is the second TCU player in as many years to reach the final site. TCU qualified as a team in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023.
Teams and individuals are guaranteed 54 holes of stroke play spread out across three days starting with Friday's opening round. The top 16 teams and nine highest-placing individuals on non-advancing teams play a final round on Monday to crown the NCAA individual champion and determine the eight teams moving on to match play. The top 15 individuals including ties earn All-Championship team honors.
Angosta was TCU's most consistent performer during the back end of the spring portion of its season. She has posted a team-leading 71.0 scoring average across her last four starts. Angosta, who concluded her prep career at Coppell High School, has scored par or better in six of her last 12 rounds played. She has notched two top-10's, four top-20's and placed no lower than 26th across her last six events played.
The performance at Regionals was springboarded by the Big 12 Championship in April, where Angosta placed T10 and received All-Tournament team accolades. She signed for a five-under 67 in round two, breaking TCU's Big 12 Championship record for low round vs. par.
Angosta finished eight strokes under par over her final 38 holes at Ridgewood. She carded 16 birdies over the course of the tournament – the second most of any player – and edged out world amateur No. 1 Kiara Romero (Oregon) by one stroke for individual qualification. Angosta shot a four-under 66 in rounds two and three. She shattered TCU's NCAA Regionals records for low-18, low-18 vs. par, low tournament total, low-54 vs. par and individual finish.
Across her three seasons in Fort Worth, Angosta has averaged a team-leading 8.1 birdies per tournament, notching 11 sub-70 rounds and 31 of par-or-better in that span. Her career scoring average sits at 73.3. Angosta has tallied seven career top-10's, four of which came during the 2024-25 campaign, and 11 career top-20's. She won the 2024 Jim West Challenge as a sophomore.
