PHILADELPHIA – TCU track and field's Jayden Douglas won the 400m hurdles title on the opening day of the 130th Penn Relays on Thursday evening.
The junior performance highlighted the first day of action as four Horned Frogs competed. Douglas, who ranks seventh in the NCAA this season in the 400m hurdles, was the only runner to break the 50 second mark, dipping just under at 49.94 to bring home the win. He gives TCU its 35th Penn Relays title, adding his name to the record books of one of the most prestigious track & field events in the world.
Also racing the 400m hurdles for the women were Laila Smith and Tia Williams. The duo finished 10th and 11th, respectively for the Frogs. Smith's time of 58.52 was just a few ticks shy of her personal best in the event.
Georgia Scott capped off the night, running the women's 1500m. She crossed the finish line 29th with a time of 4:20.53.
Action continues for TCU on Friday, April 24. The Frogs are set to race eight relays between the men and women, and Amari Kiluvia will compete in the 100m hurdles.
