TCU sprinter takes home conference honors
FORT WORTH – TCU track and field's Indya Mayberry was named Big 12 Women's Outstanding Freshman for the 2025 outdoor season, the conference announced Thursday afternoon.
The conference's indoor performer of the year and outstanding freshman adds the outdoor outstanding freshman honor to her resume. She becomes the first Horned Frog in program history to receive both the indoor and outdoor outstanding freshman recognition.
Last weekend, Mayberry was named 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Championship Women's High Point Performer, scoring 28 of the team's 86 points. She was critical in helping the TCU women record their best finish ever at the indoor conference championship meet, finishing third overall. The sprinter won both the 100m (11.03) and 200m (22.47) events and helped the Frogs earn a silver medal in the 4x100m relay.
A freshman, Mayberry has burst onto the national scene, earning high praise on both the conference and national level. A four-time Big 12 Champion already, she swept the sprint races this season. During the indoor season, the Fort Worth native won both the 60m and 200m titles, and she followed it up with gold in the 100m and 200m at the outdoor conference championship meet to become the fifth woman in Big 12 history to sweep the conference sprints.
Mayberry also won her first National Championship, winning the 200m indoors (22.30) with the No. 7 performance in world history in the event. She has also been recognized on the watch list for The Bowerman Award, given to the most outstanding male and female track and field athletes in the nation.
This season, Mayberry has also rewritten the TCU record books. She is responsible for six school records and has led the Frogs to the best finishes in school history at the Big 12 Championship meet.
Mayberry and the Frogs are back in action in College Station at the NCAA West First Round Championships May 28-31.
