Birdow Places Second in 400m Hurdles to Open Penn Relays

Horned Frogs to race in prestigious track & field meet

PHILADELPHIA – TCU track and field's Amelliah Birdow took home silver in women's collegiate 400m hurdles on Thursday night to open racing at the historic Penn Relays.

The sophomore led a trio of Horned Frogs, crossing the finish line second overall in a stacked field of nearly 40 athletes. Running a time of 56.97, it marked the fourth time this season that she's broken the 57-second mark, including a school record performance at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays a month ago. Birdow nearly won the event title, but was edged out by Clemson's JodyAnn Dixon by 0.11 seconds.

Also competing in the 400m hurdles, Tia Williams ran a season-best 57.50 to place fourth overall. Freshman Laila Smith placed 17^th in the event as well, turning in a personal best time of 59.66, the eighth fastest ever by a Frog in school history.

Action continues for TCU on Friday, April 25, with day two of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
