Indya Mayberry named Performer of the Year and Outstanding Freshman
FORT WORTH – TCU track and field's Indya Mayberry was named Big 12 Women's Performer of the Year and Outstanding Freshman, the conference announced Thursday afternoon.
Mayberry is the first Horned Frog to win either award during the indoor season and joins Texas' Sanya Richards (2003) as the only woman in Big 12 history to earn the conference's performer of the year and outstanding freshman honors in the same indoor season.
A freshman, Mayberry has burst onto the national scene just months into the start of her collegiate career. This past weekend, she was named 2025 Big 12 Indoor Championship Women's High Point Performer, scoring 20 of the team's 55 points. She was critical in helping the Horned Frog women record their best finish ever at the indoor conference championship meet, finishing tied for fifth overall.
The Fort Worth native swept the 60m and 200m at the two-day meet to earn a pair of gold medals, becoming one of just six athletes in Big 12 history to win both sprint events at the conference championship meet.
This season, Mayberry has rewritten the TCU record books, running a school record 7.11 (converted to 7.13 for altitude) in the 60m at the Corky Classic in her collegiate debut. Her time ranks No. 23 in collegiate history and is the third-fastest ever by a freshman.
At the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Mayberry broke the 200m school record with a 22.41 (converted to 22.48 for altitude). It is the third-fastest mark in the country this season and the eighth-best in collegiate history. She was recognized by the conference after her performance with Big 12 Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 12.
Fans can catch Mayberry on the track at the NCAA Indoor National Championships on March 14-15 in Virginia Beach, where she will compete in both the 60m and 200m.
