Horned Frogs Look to Close Out Regular Season on a High Note
FORT WORTH – The No. 5 TCU women's rifle team is set to host No. 8 Air Force in a pair of matches at the TCU Rifle Range on Thursday and Saturday. The second match will serve as the NCAA Qualifier, which will factor into national championship selections. All TCU shooters will be competing both days.
The Horned Frogs enter the weekend holding the fifth-best aggregate average in the nation at 4,726.67, posting a 2,345.58 smallbore average and a 2,381.92 air rifle average.
Coming off a first-place finish at Ole Miss, where they fired a 4,740 aggregate, the Frogs are looking to maintain momentum. Katie Zaun continues to be one of the top shooters in the NCAA, ranking No. 2 nationally in aggregate (1,189.17) and smallbore (591.50). She is also ranked third in air rifle (597.67) after firing a 598 in Oxford last weekend.
Zaun isn't the only Frog dominating this season. Mikole Hogan (1,181.08) and Christina Hillinger (1,176.65) both sit in the national top 50 in aggregate.
Hillinger is coming off a career-high 599 in air rifle, tying for the top individual mark in last week's match. Hogan (594.42), Passmore (593.50), and Hames (593.44) provide additional depth in air rifle, helping TCU into the top five nationally in the discipline.
TCU's smallbore unit has been led by Zaun's dominance, along with strong performances from Hogan (586.67) and Passmore (583.18).
Air Force enters the match ranked No. 8 nationally with a 4,715.46 aggregate average, including a 2,336.39 smallbore average and a 2,379.08 air rifle average. The Falcons are led by Lauren Hurley, who ranks No. 21 nationally in aggregate (1,181.39) and averages 596.08 in air rifle and 585.31 in smallbore.
The Frogs will wrap up regular-season action on Saturday before shifting their focus to the NCAA Championships, set for March 14-15 in Lexington, Ky.
