Frogs own highest three-score average in the NCAA
FORT WORTH – The No. 1 TCU women's rifle team is set to open their home slate of competitions Saturday against No. 2 Nebraska. The match is slated to get under way at 9 a.m. at the TCU Rifle Range.
The Horned Frogs put together a strong weekend in Colorado last week, shooting their two highest aggregate marks on the year. TCU tied the school smallbore record (2,365) in Saturday's match en route to shooting the second-best aggregate mark in program history (4,753). All seven shooters last weekend either set career highs or turned in season-best marks in various disciplines.
On the year, the Frogs are third nationally in air rifle average (2,384.40) and smallbore average (2,352.40). They sit fourth nationally overall with an aggregate average of 4,736.80.
Katie Zaun leads all shooters for TCU and ranks in the Top10 nationally in both disciplines (9th air rifle, 597.40; 4thsmallbore, 592.20). She has turned in a first place finish in four straight matches entering the weekend. He season aggregate average of 1,189.60 sits fifth nationally. Zaun fired season-highs and posted her best aggregate score of the season last week.
Mackenzie Kring set career-highs in smallbore (583), air rifle (598) and aggregate last weekend (1,180). Rylie Passmore turned in career-highs in smallbore (590) and aggregate (1,185), while Marissa Fedora posted a career-best 592 in smallbore. Alexandra Rosenlew shot a career-high 598 in air rifle on Sunday.
Christina Hillinger fired season highs in both disciplines, shooting a 587 in smallbore and a 595 in air rifle. On Sunday, she posted her best aggregate score of the year (1,181). Mikole Hogan continued to raise her game as well, matching her career-high with a 598 in air rifle.
All 12 shooters on the TCU roster will see action on Saturday. Annie Downum will make her season debut, while Brooklyn Reames will shoot the first home match of her career.
Nebraska is also coming off a strong performance last weekend at Army. The Cornhuskers own three of the top five smallbore scores in the NCAA this season, including an NCAA-best 2,369 on Sunday. They lead the nation with a 2,359 smallbore average. Overall, the Cornhuskers' season aggregate average of 4,739.75 is second nationally.
Emma Rhode leads Nebraska in both disciplines. She ranks third nationally in smallbore average (592.75), tied for fifth nationally in air rifle average (598.00) and third nationally in aggregate average (1,190.75).
