FROG FOCUS
The Horned Frogs begin their seventh season with plenty of optimism after a record setting year. TCU is coming off of an 11-4 record in the pandemic shortened 2020 season, the best winning percentage in program history (73.3 percent).
TCU returns 10 players from last year's roster, including 2020 wins leader Olivia Blackburn. Blackburn (formerly Olivia Beyer) played in all 15 matches last season on TCU's top pairing, delivering a 12-3 record. Blackburn, along with 2020 freshman standouts Daniela Alvarez, Rochelle Scott and Trinity Cavanaugh, will be leaned on heavily throughout the season as the Horned Frogs battle for their first NCAA tournament berth.
Head coach Hector Gutierrez brought in the No. 8-ranked recruiting class in the nation over the summer, the highest ranked freshman class in program history, headlined by Maria Gonzalez, TCU's representative on the 2021 CCSA preseason watch list.
Other notable newcomers include graduate transfer Megan Jacobsen. Jacobsen played middle blocker for San Diego indoor volleyball before transferring into the program this season. The Horned Frogs have had success with middle blocker transfers in the past, Blackburn transferred into the program last season after playing indoor at LSU.
Tania Moreno Mateeva joins the Horned Frogs for her freshman season. She is reunited with her Team Spain partner Daniela Alvarez. Their chemistry will be on full display at the top of the lineup.
The Horned Frogs will have four ranked matches this weekend. TCU went 2-3 against ranked opponents last season.
