
Chao Named Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year

IRVING, Texas — Kevin Chao has been named the 2020 Big 12 Men's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced today by the conference office.
"From the moment Kevin stepped on campus, he has been committed to excellence in the classroom, community and in the pool," head coach James Winchester said. "As someone with a deep passion for service, Kevin has been selfless as a leader within our program. He has developed inside and outside the pool, and his hard work and dedication is well reflected in this award recognition."
The junior ranks 10th all-time at TCU in the 1650 free thanks to his fourth-place performance (15:43.84) at the Big 12 Championships this year.
Chao made three A finals at the conference meet between the 1650 free (4th), 500 free (7th) and 400 IM (8th).
The Irvine, Calif., native is a junior biology major with a 3.712 GPA and is a two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 Team (2019, 2020).
"Congratulations to Kevin, the department and University is proud of his efforts, and we look forward to this success to continue into his senior year," Winchester said.
