SENIOR (2020-21)
Placed third in the 500 freestyle against Missouri (Oct. 16)… Finished fifth in the 400 yard individual medley against Texas A&M (Nov. 6)… Finished seventh in the 1650 freestyle and eighth in the 400 yard individual medley at the Big 12 Championships (Feb. 24-28).
JUNIOR (2019-20)
Placed 14th at the CSCAA Open Water Championships 5K with a mark of 1:03:33.3 ... Placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:45.59) and sixth in the 50 yard freestyle (23.00), was part of the 400 yard freestyle relay and placed first (3:15.98) in the vs. UTPB Meet in Fort Worth (Sep. 20) ... Won the 500 yard freestyle (4:40.13) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (1:43.94), was part of the 200 yard medley relay and finished fourth (1:37.34) in the Pepperdine Malibu Invite at Malibu (Oct.11-12) ... Placed second inthe 1000 yard freestyle (9:45.67) and in the 500 yard freestyle (4:44.83), was part of the 400 yard freestyle relay and finished sixth (3:14.99) at the vs. SMU meet in Fort Worth (Oct. 25) ... Won the 1000 free (9:45.56) and fifth in the 50 back (27.18) in home meet vs. Trinity (Nov. 10) … won the 1000 free (9:41.64) at home against Ouachita Baptist (Dec. 8) … finished fifth in the 1000 free (9:58.65) at West Virginia (Jan. 12) … placed fifth in the 1650 free (15:54.08) and seventh in the 400 IM (4:01.23) at the Big 12 Championships in Austin (Feb. 27-March 3)
FRESHMAN (2017-18)
Placed second in the 1000 free (10:06.32) and third in the 100 free (50.78) in home opener against UT-Permian Basin (Sept. 23) … finished second in the 500 free (4:47.73) and the 1000 free (9:48.56) in Ames, Iowa (Nov. 10) … placed second in the 1000 free (9:40.57) and fourth in the 500 free (4:42.16) at home against West Virginia (Jan. 13) … finished third in the 200 breast (2:19.80) at Texas (Feb. 2) … placed sixth in the 1650 free (15:46.28) at the Big 12 Championships at Texas (Feb. 21-24)
PERSONAL
Chao comes to TCU from Irvine, Calif., where he swims for Crean Lutheran South High School. Chao is a freestyle specialist and holds personal-best times of 9:20.7 (1000 Free), 4:30.5 (500 Free) and 15:56.1 (1650 Free). In May of 2016, Chao took home third place in the 500 free at the California Section Championships. He was named a 2016 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. Chao plans to major in pre-med.
