Samuel becomes TCU's all-time leader in blocked shots
FORT WORTH – Freshman guard Mike Miles scored a season-high 21 points, but the TCU men's basketball team was unable to overcome a cold-shooting second half and fell to Oklahoma 82-78 score on Sunday inside Schollmaier Arena.
RJ Nembhard added 18 points and a team-high five assists for TCU (4-1, 0-1). Kevin Samuel led all players with 11 rebounds, and his first half blocked shot put him atop the TCU record book in career blocked shots. Austin Reaves scored a game-high 32 points, including a 16-of-18 effort from the free throw line, to lead Oklahoma (2-0, 1-0).
Seven different Frogs scored in the opening 10 minutes as TCU jumped out to a 21-14 lead. TCU stretched its lead to as many as nine and wound up leading 42-39 at the half. PJ Fuller scored 12 of his 15 points in the first half, on 5-of-6 shooting. Both teams were 15-of-30 (50 percent) from the field through the first 20 minutes of action.
The Sooners opened the second half on a 14-4 run to take their largest lead of the game at 53-46, holding the Frogs to just 1-of-13 shooting (7.7 percent) during this stretch. TCU responded with a 10-2 run, capped by a fastbreak layup and 3-pointer from Nembhard, to retake the lead at 56-55 with 11:43 remaining. Both teams continued to trade baskets over the next several minutes, but Oklahoma's Reaves scored 16 of the Sooners' final 18 points to seal the win for the Sooners.
